Thomas E. Birch

1940 - 2011

Thomas E. Birch, 70, of Mason City died at 10:40am on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at his residence.  He was born on July 19, 1940 the son of Russell Sr. and Agnes Raye (Kiper) Birch in Falls of Rough, KY.  He married Eleanor Meyer on August 10, 1958 in Ashland.

Survivors are his wife Eleanor, one daughter, Kay (companion Bill) Shelabarger of Mason City, three sons, Phillip (Tina) Birch of Mason City, Donnie (Chris) Birch of Mason City and Ronnie (Jennie) Birch of Loami, nine grandchildren, Traci Bramwell, Amy Bramwell, Julie Shelabarger, Matthew E. Birch, Ashlei S. Weidhuner-Birch, Evan L. Weidhuner-Birch, Mandy Frost, Hailey J. Birch, and one great-granddaughter, Tori Birch.  Also surviving are three sisters, Evelyn Swift, Betty Harvey, Diane Geary, all of Kentucky and one brother, Russell Birch Jr.  Thomas is preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Mr. Birch worked for Baugher Implement, was a farmhand for John Cunningham, manager of a fertilizer company and owned and operated Birch’s Standard Service Station.

Funeral services will be at 11:30am on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Hurley Funeral Home, visitation will be one hour prior to service.  Bill Swaar will officiate.  Cremation rites have been accorded.  Memorials may be left to Memorial Hospital Hospice.  Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City is in charge of arrangements.
