Laverne "Tuffy" Lane

1920 - 2010

LaVerne  Lane, “Tuffy” , died Friday, March 19, 2010, just short of his 90th birthday after a long dedicated life to his family and community.  He was born on April 12, 1920 in Lynchburg Township, Illinois, to Leonard and Mabel (Blessman) Lane.  He married Katherine JoAnn Dallmann on February 23, 1946.  LaVerne is survived by his sister, Rena Mae Middlekamp, and his two sons, Riley (wife, Sally), and Rick (wife, Marty).  Grandchildren include Mark (wife, Kristen), Erik (wife, Paula), David, Michelle Brown (husband, Jim), Sheridan and Justin.  Also surviving are 10 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn.

LaVerne was a graduate of Bath High School and Brown Business School and went on to serve the U.S. Army in World War II.  LaVerne was a charter member of the Bath-Lynchburg Optimist club for 58 years,  a lifetime member of the Havana VFW, a Mason County Board member for 24 years, and the Bath Township Supervisor for 34 years.  He also was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Chandlerville. 

A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on  Saturday, March 27, 2010, at the Salem Lutheran Church in Chandlerville, Illinois.  Burial will follow at the Bethel Cemetery, not far from the farm to which he dedicated his life’s work.  In lieu of a visitation, the Lane Family will host a reception to celebrate LaVerne’s life at Sheridan Lane Restaurant and Lounge on Lakewood Golf Course from 4 -7 p.m. following the burial.
