Vera M. Lascelles
1926 - 2011
Vera M. Lascelles, 85, of Havana,
passed away at Lewis Memorial Christian Village in Springfield at 4:44 a.m. on
Thursday, December 08, 2011. She was born May 8, 1926 in rural Havana to Louis
and Addie (Opp) Schmidt. She married Melvin Lascelles on March 15, 1945 in
Havana.
Mrs. Lascelles is survived by her
husband, Melvin, of Havana, two daughters, Melba (John) Upton of Jacksonville,
Marla (Frederick) Wiemer of Easton and one son, Melvin (Karla) Lascelles Jr., of
Easton. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and
one brother, Ernest Schmidt of Mason City. She was preceded in death by her
parents, two sisters, Ruby Lascelles and Gladys Parrott and one brother, Donald
Schmidt, Sr.
Mrs. Lascelles was a member of the
Central Christian Church in Havana, where she was involved with the Christian
Women’s Fellowship. She was also a member of the Easton Women’s Club. She
enjoyed spending time with her family and working puzzles. She helped her
husband for many years on the family farm.
Visitation will be held at the
Hurley Funeral Home in Havana from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 9,
2011. Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Central
Christian Church in Havana. Rev. Emily Williams will officiate. Burial will
follow the services at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana.
