Viola Picken 1918 - 2009
Manito, IL - Viola Picken, 91, of Manito passed away at 3:30 pm Monday, Nov. 23, 2009 at the Timber Creek Rehab Center in Pekin, IL. She was born in Chandlerville, IL on Jan. 25, 1918 the daughter of Charles and Myrtle Wilcoxen DeFrates. She married Clark Picken in 1948 and he preceded her in death in 1968. Mrs. Picken cooked at the Blue Spruce Restaurant near Manito for many years and prior to that had her own restaurant in Forest City. She is survived by five sons; Mannie (Carol) Roberts, Ed (Patricia Ann) Picken, Clark (Brenda) Picken and Max Picken all of Manito and Rickey (Tina) Picken of San Jose, IL. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and one sister, Darlene McVey of Macomb, IL. She was preceded in death by four sons: Frank, Tom, Charlie and Bob; four brothers; Charles, Orlen, Emanuel and Herbert, and one sister Gladys. Funeral services will he held at 2:00 pm Friday, Nov. 27, 2009 at the Hurley Funeral Home in Havana conducted by Rev. Joe Stewart. Visitation will be held from noon until 2:00 pm on Friday prior to the service. Burial will be in the Meadow Lawn Cemetery at Manito. Memorial contributions may be made to the Make a Wish Foundation.
