Virgil L. Blodgett

1927 - 2008

Virgil L. Blodgett, 80, of Ipava, formerly of Bath passed away at his home at 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2008. He was born in Fulton Co. to Ancil & Margaret Blodgett on June 27, 1927. He married Mildred Lacey on Sept. 29, 1944. She survives.

Also surviving are six children: Arlen (Kay) of Havana, Rosie (Earl) Lyons of Havana, Elizabeth (Donnie) Hughes of Bath, Randy of Bath, Rhonda (Spencer) Jones of Havana and Lorie (Carroll) Whitmer of Cuba. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren and numerous extended family. He is also survived by 3 sisters, Lucille Betson of Canton, Mary Schmidt of Havana, Margaret Bassett of Pekin and one brother, Raymond of Alaska.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, and two brothers, one grandson, one granddaughter and one great-grandson.

He worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 31 years before retiring. He spent 21 years on the Village Board and 20 years as the Bath Fire Chief.

No funeral services are scheduled at this time, but cremation rites have been accorded and his ashes will be interred at Bath Cemetery at a later date.
