Vivian Doris Malone

1921 - 2011

Vivian Doris Stone Malone, 90, formerly of Manito, IL, and Bonita Springs, Fl. Passed away at 4:50 p.m., Saturday November 5, 2011 at the Havana Health Care Center.

She was born April 26, 1921 in Hebron, Nebraska, the daughter of Charles Edward Hasty and Allie Maude (Simpson) Hasty.  She married Richard Wilson Stone on January 6, 1940 in Marion County, Missouri.  She and Richard farmed for many years in the Springlake bottoms on the Staker and Helm farms. Richard passed away June 12, 1967.

She married John (Jack) Neill, a retired Pekin City Letter Carrier on September 27, 1975 at her daughter’s home in Forest City, IL.  He passed away October 16, 1979 in Bonita Springs, FL.

She married Stephen Malone, a retired policeman, from Jenkintown, PA. on November 30, 1985 at Bonita Springs, FL.  He passed away June 14, 1997 in Bonita Springs, FL.  From this marriage are surviving three step-daughters and one step-granddaughter.

Her son, Richard Chance Stone, passed away on July 21, 2003.  Her son, Army medic SP4, Edward Wilson Stone, was killed in action in Vietnam on May 3, 1970.  Her parents, 3 brothers, and 6 sisters also preceded her in death.

Surviving are one son, Danny (Laura) Stone of Glasford, IL.; one daughter, Nina (Larry) Wooding of Manito, IL.; and one step-daughter donna (Paul) Behrends of Havana, IL.  Also surviving are 3 brothers Wayne, Orville, and Joe plus one sister Betty. She has 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Vivian was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Bonita Springs.  She was a life member of the Bonita Springs VFW #4254 Ladies Auxiliary.  She was a Gold Star Mother member of Bonita Springs American Legion Auxiliary Post #303 and the Manito American Legion Auxiliary Post #0561.  She was a life member of the Bonita Springs Lions Club where she was a Melvin Jones Fellowship Award recipient.  She was very active in the Lion’s Club Thrift Store.

After 31 years in Florida, she returned home to Illinois in 2003 and resided at Court Place in Pekin.  She spent many summers at the Kentuckiana Campground near Hopedale.

The family sincerely thanks all the staff at the Havana Health Care Center for her care over the past 4 years.  A Special thanks to the Passages Hospice group for their dedicated 24-hour care during her last three days.  Funeral services will be held at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana, with a 2 hour visitation from 9 to 11a.m. and services following at 11a.m. on Tuesday, November 8, 2011. Rev. Thomas Guengerich will officiate.  Memorials can be made to St. Jude Childrens’ Research Hospital or Passages Hospice.
