Robert Holnback Waller
1934-2010
Robert Holnback Waller, 76, of Green Valley, IL passed away July 9, 2010, at his residence. He was born April 27, 1934, the son of Robert H. and Helen (Holnback) Waller in Cape Girardeau, MO. He married Carole Cooper at the Holy Trinity Church in Bloomington, IL, in 1961. She survives.
Robert is also survived by three sons: Robert Cooper (Jyl) Waller of Athens, IL, John Ivan Waller of Green Valley, IL, and James William (Tracey) Waller of Cedar Rapids, IA. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and one sister: Betty Lou Tennill of Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Robert graduated from White Hall High School. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Illinois State University. While attending ISU, he received the Holbert Medal. He then attended N E Missouri State where he received his Master’s Degree. Robert also did post graduate work at Capitol University, Northern Illinois University, Florida State University, Western Illinois University, and Indiana University. He served his country during the Korean War with the United States Army.
Robert retired after working 35 years in the Education field. He was an Administrator at Arlington Heights High School. He later was Assistant Superintendent in Pittsfield, IL. Then he was Superintendent at Sherrard Community School District. He retired as Superintendent of South Pekin Grade School. He was a member of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association.
Robert enjoyed gardening, traveling, wood working, and spending time with his family. He will always be remembered as a caring husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at Hurley Funeral Home in San Jose, IL from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at Dennison Funeral Home in Viola, IL. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 P.M. Burial will be at the Viola Cemetery. Pastor Jack Brown will be officiating. Memorials may be left to the Alzheimer’s Association. Hurley Funeral Home in San Jose is in charge of arrangements.
