Walter “Irish” R. Megredy, 84, of Tallula, passed away on Friday, February 11, 2011 at 2:15 am at Menard Convalescent Center. He was born on February 25, 1926 in Tallula to Franklin and Hattie Helen Colson Megredy.

 

Surviving are nieces and nephews, Grady (Susie) Smith, Gailyn (Jeff) Hudson, Kristi (Steve) White, Mindy (Mark) Christinson, Marcy Handy, Gina Pehlman, and Gayle (Tom) Higley; and several great nieces and nephews.

 

 He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

 

Walter was a Sergeant in the US Army, serving in WWII. He worked as a lineman all his life, and was a 60-year member of the IBEW.   He enjoyed spending time in Las Vegas and enjoyed off track betting.

 

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 18, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg.  Dale Sinclair will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in Farmer’s Point Cemetery in Tallula.
