C. Wayne Fliss, 83,  passed away at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, November 6, 2011, at Christian Village in Lincoln, Illinois.  His son, daughter, and daughter-in-law were able to spend all Saturday and Sunday bedside with him and as he passed very peacefully.

 

A family memorial service will be held at a later date.  Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Petersburg.

 

Mr. Fliss was born December 8, 1927, in Milford, Iowa, a son of Cleo and Mildred Lamb.  He married his high school sweetheart Georgia Chase on October 9, 1949, in Iowa City.

 

Wayne attended Iowa City High School in Iowa City, Iowa, graduating in 1947.  Following high school, he serviced in the Air Force and then returned to the University of Iowa where he obtained a degree in Marketing in 1956.  Wayne retired from the J.C. Penney Company in 1987 after 31 years in management;  during his career at Penney’s,  he managed stores in Minnesota, Iowa, Florida, Indiana, Michigan, and North Dakota.

 

Survivors include his son, Todd (Ellen Lipe) Fliss of Petersburg, IL, and his daughter, Sarah (David) Woodward of Savage, Minn.; grandchildren, Abigail Fliss, Michael Woodward, Katie Woodward, and Chase Woodward; and a sister Cleone.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Georgia, his parents, a brother Marvin and a sister Lila Jean.
