Whitney "Spud" Eldridge

(1922 - 2010)

Whitney L. “Spud” Eldridge, 88, of Greenview, died at 9:00a.m. on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Capitol Care Center in Springfield. He was born on February 10, 1922. to Earl and Thelma Phillipson Eldridge. He married Sophia Mick in June 1, 1947 in Greenview. She preceded him in death on October 27, 2000 in Greenview.

He is also preceded in death by his parents and one brother Ed Eldridge.

Surviving are two sons, Larry of Mason City; Tom ( Lori Croupe) of Greenview, one sister, Mary Lois McAtee of Greenview and one brother, Arthur (Norma) of Morton, IL

He was a Farmer for 52 years.

He was Army Air Corp veteran serving in World War II.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, AmVets, and the American Legion all in Greenview, he also was a past board member of the Fire District in Greenview.

Services will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Hurley Funeral Home in Greenview, where visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, November 9, 2010. Pastor Julie Wells Blythe will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Greenview, where Military rites will be conducted.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
