Wilma Stanley    

(1925 - 2005)

Wilma Jean Newton Stanley, 79, of Havana died at 3:15 p.m. on Sat., March 12, 2005. She was on born on May 9, 1925 in Manito, IL to Russell and Esther Ahrens McCullough. She married Glen Newton on September 9, 1944 in Havana. He died August 6, 1977. She later married Billy "Bill" Stanley on November 27, 1982. He died on August 10, 2001.

She worked as a Secretary for Concordia Seminary in Springfield, IL and later as a case worker for Illinois Dept. of Public Aid. 

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Havana, St. Paul's Lutheran Aid Society, Havana Business and Professional Women's Club, and Illinois Wellfare Association, McDonough County Foster Parents Association, and Parent Advisory Council of Eureka College. She was a foster parent for over 20 yrs. having more than 50 children in that time. She was a former 4-H, Cub Scout, and Boy Scout leader.

She was preceded in death by both husbands, parents, and one sister.

She is survived by two sons, Les (Kay) Newton of East Peoria, Kent (Teresa) Newton of Mt. Zion, one daughter, Mrs. David (Linda) Porter of Pella, Iowa, two foster children, Gabriella Stanley of Havana, Amy Clark of Prophettstown, two brothers, Bernard McCullough of Centerville, VA, Gerald McCullough of Chandlerville, IL, one sister, Marjorie Cutright of Mason City, IL five grandchildren, and two foster grandchildren.

Services will be held on Sat., March 19, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Havana. Pastor Martin W. Liebmann, Jr. will be presiding. Visitation will be hald on Fri., March 18, 2005 from 6 till 8 p.m. at the Hurley Funeral Home in Havana.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Walther League or Spoon River Hospice.
