Elma Susan Olive

Elma Susan Olive, 95, of Petersburg, Illinois, formerly of Gillespie, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at Lewis Memorial Christian Village in Springfield, Illinois. She was born January 28, 1926, in Monticello, Kentucky, the daughter of Oscar and Tennie (Brammer) Powell. She married Carl Olive in Springfield, Illinois. He preceded her in death. Elma worked for and retired from Sangamo Electric in Springfield. She loved her God and was very active in her church. She taught Sunday school for many years. She loved her family very much. She also loved being around babies and children. Elma is survived by a son, Albert Dorworth of Athens, Illinois; her step children, Judy Debolt of Pensacola, Florida, Jim Cornelius of Milford, New Jersey, Ron Cornelius of Stockton, California, Randy Olive of Gillespie, Illinois, Judy Kluethe of Gillespie, Illinois, Kay Houser of Eagarville, Illinois, Patty Snider of Carlinville, Illinois, and Pam Kessinger of Gillespie, Illinois; two sisters, Marilyn Hunt of Tallula, Illinois, and Ada Powell of Petersburg, Illinois; and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Elma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Jim Powell, Stanley Powell, Leland Powell and Eugene Powell; and two sisters, Lucille Sinclair and Delores Snyder. A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2022, from 10 am to 11 am at Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg, Illinois. The funeral service will immediately follow with Pastor Ray Spellbrink as the officiant. A graveside service will follow the funeral beginning at 2 pm at Olive Cemetery, 7593 Kerin Rd., Alhambra, Illinois 62001, with Pastor Dane Solari as the officiant.
