George Ann Stevens, 79, of Petersburg, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2020, at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Petersburg. She was born on April 14, 1941 in Springfield, Illinois, the daughter of George and Marjorie (Jockisch) Henderson. She married Ronald Stevens on June 12, 1960. George Ann is survived by her husband, Ronald; three sons, Dennis (wife Pamela) Stevens of Petersburg, Derrick Stevens of Petersburg, and Drew (partner Tracy) Stevens of Petersburg; a granddaughter, Aubrey (husband Dillon) Fickas of Petersburg; and two great-granddaughters, Kylie and Ayla Fickas. George Ann was preceded in death by her parents. In 1959, George Ann graduated from Tallula High School as Valedictorian of her class. As a life-long resident of Menard County, she was very active in the community. She served as a board member for Crimestoppers of Sangamon & Menard Counties, Memorial’s Festival of Trees, Petersburg Women’s Club, and many more. She also was a member of The First Christian Church of Petersburg. George Ann had many hobbies such as playing golf, playing cards, snow skiing, and traveling. While she enjoyed playing golf and Bridge, George Ann was mainly there for the camaraderie. She loved spending time with friends and making new ones. She was also Tallula proud all her life and never missed an alumni event! Her favorite colors were green and yellow, and although she liked everything, she didn’t like red! If you were a friend of George Ann’s, you were a friend for life. Another notable trait of George Ann’s was her cooking! She loved to cook and could bake anything. Strawberry cake and fruit pies were her specialty, along with an annual Angel Food Cake with white frosting at Christmas to celebrate Jesus’s Birthday. Above all, George Ann loved spending time with her family. A private memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 26, 2020, beginning at 10 am at the First Christian Church in Petersburg with Pastor Rick Williams officiating. A graveside service at Oakland Cemetery in Petersburg will immediately follow at approximately 10:30, where family and friends are welcome to attend. A celebration of life will be held in the Spring of 2021. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2309 W.
