Robert E. Ellis, 75, of Venice, FL, formerly of Greenview, IL, passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at Memorial Medical Center. He was born on April 17, 1946, in Effingham, IL to Charles and Iolene (Davis) Ellis. He married Bonita K. Soltwedel on September 5, 1971, in Altamont, IL. Robert is survived by two children, Nicole (Charles) Sathoff of Oakford, James (Melony) Ellis of Pleasant Plains; grandchildren Jake and Kyle Sathoff, Abigail (Abby) and Madigan (Maddy) Ellis; his siblings Linda (John) Potts of Altamont, and Donna (Dennis) Bueker of Sigel. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonita; his parents; and his grandchildren Janson, Easton, and Madison Ellis. Robert had attended the Westside Christian Church in Springfield before moving to Florida. He had worked for the State of IL before retirement in the Department of Child Services. He enjoyed golfing and fishing. A funeral service will be held for Robert on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg, IL. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM also at the funeral home. Reverend Mike Harney will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakford Cemetery in Oakford, IL.
