Thomas Rimbey Lukeman, 87 passed away on Feb 24, 2022 after a brave fight against stomach cancer. He was surrounded by family at his beloved Matanzas Beach lake home. Tom was born Jan 4,1935 in Jacksonville, IL to George T. Lukeman Jr. and Maymestelle who preceded him in death. Tom and his little sister Judy often exchanged fun memories they had growing up on Woodland-- which at the time was mainly pastureland. Tom was an Eagle Scout who loved the outdoors and he often reminisced about his adventurous trips to Glacier Park Montana. He often claimed that he swam in Lake McDonald with icebergs. Tom had a great sense of humor which kept his family chuckling until his last days. Tom graduated from Bradley University and was member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. After graduation, Tom enjoyed working at several family businesses in Jacksonville including Lukeman Motor Company and Sandy Creek Farm. He also was a US Army Veteran, American patriot and avid Republican. He was a member of the Elk’s B.P.O.E 682 and Jacksonville Country Club. He later worked in finance at SIU School of Medicine and retired from the Illinois State Commerce Commission as Controller. Tom married the love of his life Joanne and their union was that of a true love story. Tom was a loving husband, wonderful father and good man. He is survived by his wife Joanne, daughter Connie Lukeman-Alston (Nick), stepchildren Bob Hill (Jean), Diane Hardwick (Larry, deceased), Brad Hill (Debbie), grandchildren; Dustin Hardwick (Joy), Dana Bangert (Matt), Katie Grant (Chris), Audrey Seyerle (Franz),Tyler Hill (Candace), Andrew Hill,10 great grandchildren, his sister Judy Williams, nephew, Tom Williams (Kelly) and niece Missy Bobb (Mark). Tom and Joanne loved traveling to visit the children in Tennessee, Florida, South Africa and California. Tom donated his body to SIU School of medicine for research and requested that there be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to DAV (Disabled American Veterans). The family would like to thank Mason District Hospital, Dr. Yetter and his staff and Kindred Hospice for their incredible care. Tom enjoyed life to its fullest and the family is certain that he would appreciate a toast to his life. Family and neighbors plan to plant a tree in his memory at Matanzas Beach.
