Virginia LeMar

May 14, 1925 - July 17, 2021

Virginia Grider LeMar, age 96, of Petersburg, died surrounded by family, Saturday, July 17, 2021 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Petersburg. She was born May 14, 1925, in rural Pleasant Plains, the daughter of Loren and Mary Daniels Grider. She married William J LeMar of the United States Navy during WWII on December 13, 1943, and they were married for 73 years. She was a private piano and violin teacher in Tallula, Petersburg, and the Springfield area for over 55 years, which included teaching at the Springfield College of Music and Allied Arts. She was a member of the Tallula Christian Church since 1937, taught Sunday school for over 50 years, served as Sunday School Superintendent and pianist, and served as Elder and Historian. She as a member of Tallula and Petersburg Women’s Club, Menard Caring Board, Food Pantry volunteer, Menard County Garden Club, former member of Edgar Lee Masters Board, Petersburg Book Club, 4-H leader, Menard County Thrift Shop Board, and the Tallula and Springfield American Legion Auxiliary. Virginia is survived by her two daughters, Gloria Leamon (Clyde Davis) of Petersburg, and Sharon (Ronald) Cline of Sherman; grandchildren Todd (Tiffani) Hamerlinck of Springfield, Teresa (Michael) Atterberry of Petersburg, Trent (Diane) Hamerlinck of Morton, Evan (Jennifer) Davis of Springfield, and Trisha (Bradley) Bergman of Mason City; and 18 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, William LeMar of 73 years, sister Maurine Jepsen Reynolds of California, and grandson Timothy Hamerlinck and his wife Jackie of Petersburg. Funeral services for Virginia will be held at the Tallula Christian Church in Tallula, IL at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, July 21, 2021. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:30 to 11:30 AM also at the church. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Petersburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tallula Christian Church.
