Donald Eugene Hamblin

Donald Eugene Hamblin, 85, of Kilbourne passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. He was born on December 4, 1938 in Kilbourne to Orville Byron and Ada Pauline (Daniel) Hamblin. Donald is survived by his children, Byron (Paige) Hamblin of Chandlerville; Dawn Marie Hamblin & Amy (Eric) Boehm all of Petersburg. Grandchildren, Howard (Jessica) Hamblin, Taylor (Chelsea Todd, fiancé ) Hamblin, Tucker Hamblin, Nicole Marie Johnson, Hallie Marie Masten (David) Barker, Alix Sherron Gray, Leah Pauline Gray, Scott Boehm & Lakin Boehm. 9 great-grandchildren, life long friend & brother-in-law, Daniel Mapes and many special nieces and nephews & cousins Bob and Allyn Montgomery. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Denny Lee Hamblin, and sister, Carrol Hamblin Mapes. He graduated from Balyki High School in 1958 and joined the Army Reserves while still in school. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Kilbourne. As a youth he loved to hunt and work for neighboring farmers. Donald belonged to the Oakridge 4-H Club, and showed sheep. In his teenage years, he was a skillful roller skater and enjoyed traveling to nearby towns with his buddies to skate. Donald farmed all his life, including raising cattle, hogs, sheep, ducks & chickens. As a skillful welder and builder, he could usually make what was needed to improve the operations of the Hope Farm. He owned and operated Hamblin Feed Service for many years. He hosted foreign exchange students from several countries through the Porta FFA program and traveled to Europe to visit them in later years. He loved going to races, whether it was car or motorcycle races & was known to have a lead foot. An avid motorcyclist himself, Donald nearly always owned motorcycles throughout his life. He enjoyed watching TV in his later years from his favorite recliner. He loved spending time with his family & always wanted them to come visit. There was no such thing as too many visits from his beloved family. Cremation rites have been accorded and per Donald’s wishes, no formal services will take place.
