Arlene Kay Stone

Arlene Kay Stone, 73, of Petersburg, Illinois, passed away at her home on Sunday, January 21, 2024, with her loving family by her side after a long battle with cancer. She was born March 5, 1950, in Worcester, Massachusetts, to John and Shirley (née Stedt) Lundgren. She married William Stone on March 30, 1974, in Millbury, Massachusetts. Arlene was a member of the Calvary Church in Springfield, Illinois, and loved her church greatly. Before retiring, she worked as an RN at Memorial Hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts. She loved to do scrapbooking and even belonged to a group called the Snappy Scrappers. She loved to travel, especially on an annual trip to Door County with her friends, Dr. and Penny Newton. She also loved to take dinner cruises on Lake Petersburg with her grandchildren, her best friend Joan Hincks, and Joan’s daughter, Rebecca. She loved the Boston Red Sox, almost as much as she hated the New York Yankees. She also had a love of dogs. She loved holiday parties, picnics and “animal days” with her grandkids, family and friends, and loved spending time with John playing daily word games. Arlene had a laugh that would light up a room and you could always find her in a crowd. Even while sick, she remained concerned about others and made sure her friends were taken care of and had companionship. Arlene is survived by her husband, William; her son, John (wife Amanda) Stone of Pekin, Illinois; her grandchildren, Ariana and Alexander; her sisters, Janice, Karen (husband Dennis), Joyce (husband Jack) and Gloria (husband Brian); her best friend of over 40 years, Joan Hincks, and Joan’s daughter, Rebecca (husband Eric). Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Christopher Stone and an infant son. A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, at the Calvary Church, 1730 W. Jefferson St, Springfield, Illinois 62702. The funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Paul Rose officiating. A committal service will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Petersburg, Illinois.
