Betty Lou Griffin

Betty Lou Griffin of Mason City, Illinois, passed away on January 24th 2026 at 2:55pm at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL, surrounded by her family. She was born at home in Greenview, Illinois, on August 22, 1940, to Leon and Lola Griffin. Her home town was Mason City, where she built a home filled with love of her family and always sharing her faith in God.She was a longtime member of the Mason City Assembly of God Church. She had resided at St. Clara's Senior Care, in Lincoln for the last five years where she received excellent care. From an early age, she had a love for music. She received her first accordion at the age of eight and later played in the church choir at Mason City Assembly of God Church. She also played the piano and found joy in music. Throughout her life she enjoyed cooking, baking, making flower arrangements, reading her Bible, and above all, spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She worked alongside her mother and sister Beverly at Charmette Beauty Shop, a family business owned by her mother. Her work there reflected her love of community and connection qualities that defined her throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Lola Griffin; sons Steve K. Frye, Robert L. Frye, and infant son Danny Lee Frye; an infant brother, Richard L. Griffin. a sister Bonnie Thomas; brother-in-law Harold Archie Thomas; and granddaughters, Emily Patterson, Betty Jo Benshoff (Frye), Nicole Blevins (Robertson), Infant grand babies Autumn Benshoff, Sybil Brooks, James Brooks, and Nathan Robertson. She is survived by her children: Sonya K. Parks/Quednow (Scott) of Springfield, IL, Sandy K. Frye/Robertson (Mike) of Mason City, IL, Stacey R. Lane (Singley) of Lincoln, IL and Jeremy W. Singley of Decatur, IL. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Charity Bitner; Abby Bitner; Blake Harrison (Tiffany); Gabe (Whitfield) Vala, Bruce Whitfield; Brian Blevins; Tyler Robertson (Kyle Trentham); Steven Frye (Tarra) Amy Ferrell (Chris); Maecey Singley.,Paxton Singley; and Ryan Frye. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Ally and Kimmy Bitner; Eric, Jaxon, and Elle Joseph; Sienna Harrison; Reagan and Nora Whitfield; Bruce jr, Sonny, Lavinia WhitfTrey, Summer, and Caleb Benshoff ; CJ and Willow Ferrell; and Grayson Blevins. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Mason City Assembly of God, with visitation one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow the services at Mason City Cemetery. Rev. James Sprinkel will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to Mason City Assembly of God.
