Carolyn Rose McKenna

Carolyn Rose Randolph McKenna, 76, of Mason City passed away Monday October 20, 2014 at her home with her family. She was born August 5, 1938 on the family farm southwest of Waverly, Illinois. The daughter of Elbert and Flossie Randolph, she married Murray McKenna on September 23, 1988 at St. Columbia’s Catholic Church, Mason City, IL. He survives her. Carolyn is also survived by five nieces and nephews; Nina Gilpin Ellinwood of St. Louis MO, Victor Gilpin of Columbia, IL, Karl Gilpin of Arlington, VA, Melinda Randolph Gaio of Springfield, IL, Jody Randolph Major of Nokomis, IL, two stepdaughters; Susan McKenna Clark of Taylorville, IL, Margo McKenna Hudson of Lincoln ,IL, five step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren, and two brothers and one sister; W. Edwin Randolph of Waverly, IL, W. Kenneth “Ken” Randolph of Springfield, IL and Verna Randolph Gilpin-Imhoff of Springfield, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents. After graduating from Waverly High School, Carolyn attended Illinois State University where she received a BS in Education in 1974 and a MS in Business Education in 1977. She worked as a secretary at Illinois State University, Normal for 29 years and later as a substitute teacher in Mason County from 1998 to 2010. She was a long time member of the United Presbyterian Church in Mason City. She was a life member of Alpha Lota Sorority (Honorary Business Sorority) SPI, Delta Pi Epsilon, Honorary Business while at ISU and Land of Lincoln Antique Tractor & Engine Club. Carolyn enjoyed quilting, knitting/crocheting and cake decorating. Carolyn and Murray were also members of the Tri-County Square Dancing Club in San Jose, IL. She enjoyed her many farm animals. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 23, 2014 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 24, 2014 at 10:00am at The United Presbyterian Church in Mason City. Burial will take place following services at Waverly East Cemetery in Waverly. Rev. Bonita Clark Quandt will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to The United Presbyterian Church, Mason City, IL or to the American Cancer Society. Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City is in charge of services.
