Chad Williams

Chad Williams, 48, of Mason City passed away at his home on Friday, August 11, 2023. He was born on August 8, 1975, in Galesburg to Deana Williams. He grew-up in Gilson, IL graduating from Knoxville High School class of 1995. Chad is survived by his fiancé Terri Spann of Mason City, 3 Children: Joseph Stewart; Airen Spann, Christian Williams, future son-in-law Cedric Kelley and the light of his life, his grandson Jude Kelley. He is also survived by his step-father Russ Skinner; his brother, Tom (Lacy) McGee, niece Hayden and nephews, Hunter, Heath and Holden and future Mother-in-Law Chris Cunningham. In addition, Chad has several “adopted” family members that he loved dearly including Athena Cummings; Dalton, Jamie, Jack and Mason Knanavivich; Ty Tracy; Daltyn Williams; Austin, Haley and Oliver Blankenship; Ryan Lamb, Sabrina Jewett, Landon and Rose Frakes and Tabitha Lamb; Brianna Harp; Billy Arnold; Alex Bonaparte; Bowen Skaggs; Tyler Smith; Jay (Jodi) Sanders, Devon Halsted, Samantha and Sydney Halsted and Emmalina Williams and Mike (Susie) Pokora. While Chad had several jobs, he was especially proud of selling cars at Lakis Ford in Galesburg, delivering Miller Lite, Coors & Dr. Pepper and selling meat at Eckridge/ConAgra. While he also had developed a new love for pouring and working with concrete over the last year, farming was his one true passion. He ran a grain cart for Randy Phelps and Blake Buchholz for multiple seasons. Chad loved working within his local community whether it was being President of the Galesburg Jaycees in 2002 (as well as holding other various Jaycee offices). While in the Jaycees Chad built and ran multiple award-winning Haunted Houses, was a starch supporter of Camp New Hope in Mattoon IL. Ending his Jaycee as a 10th Degree Jaycee. In Peoria he was a founding member of PCAV (Peoria Community Against Violence) and started and ran their biggest ongoing fundraiser, P-Town Soup. In addition, he was the Vice President of the East Bluff United Neighborhood Association in the East Bluff. Chad was instrumental in getting the East Bluff Community Center up and running in 2015. In Mason City he ran for City Alderman (and was gearing up to run again) and helped draft the Golf Cart Law. Chad enjoyed sitting on his front porch entertaining friends, family and guests of all kinds; was a lifetime fan of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Blackhawks, Chicago Bears, IA Hawkeyes; dreamt of winning the lottery; Buffalo Trace Bourbon; late night trips to Casey’s; cooking; perfecting recipes; was big supporter of the local police departments (Knoxville, Peoria and Mason City) and US Marine Corps; played the occasional game of golf; performed stand-up comedy at Mason City Limits opening for such greats as Joe Lancey, Jeff Govednik & Uncle Larry Reeb. Cremation rites have been accorded and a celebration of life was held in Mason City at American Legion Post 496 Saturday, August 19, 2023. There was a memorial fundraiser to help the family with final expenses Labor Day Weekend including comedians Josh Freeman, Jeff Tolbert, Andrew Tiede and Larry Smith performing at Mason City Limits on Friday, September 1, 2023, and Jeff Govednik, Zach Boblitt, Ryne Thorson, Joe Lancey, Edgar Sandoval and Frank Dicosta on Sunday September 3, 2023. Chris Speyrer, Kyle Fields and Scott Harris performed both Friday and Sunday but with different material. Memorial contributions may be made directly to the family.
