Clint Betty Jo Ruppel

Clint and Betty Jo Ruppel, 79 and 77 of Petersburg, passed away on October 13 and October 14, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center from injuries they sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Clint was born on December 17, 1934 in Newmansville, IL, the son of Otto and Myrtle (Thomas) Ruppel. Betty was born on March 8, 1937 in Chandlerville, IL, the daughter of Lloyd and Mary Aletha (Blair) Garner. Clint and Betty married on August 14, 1954 and recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. They are survived by their children Rodney (Debbie) Ruppel, Rita (Greg) Noll, Roger (Holly) Ruppel, Robyn (Mark) Toland, and Rachel (Dr. Scott) Weber; grandchildren Jeremy (Melissa) Ruppel, Brock (Lindy) Ruppel, Chance (Lori) Ruppel, Travis (Brooke) Ruppel, Tayler Mae Ruppel, Adrienne (Dave) Topa, Erin (Bjorn) Berg, Ryan (Michelle) Noll, Alison “AJ” (Raymond) Horn, Eric Noll, Brett “Bar” Ruppel, Sophie, Carlie and Luke Toland, Liddy and Aaron Weber; great-grandchildren Caitlin, Tyler, Braylin Jean and Tobias Ruppel, Nathan and Madelyn Topa, Dane Berg; and siblings Kenny (Marty) Ruppel and Carol Newman. Clint and Betty called Petersburg home for over fifty years. They farmed early in their marriage before Clint joined Union Local 477 from which he retired. Betty was a dedicated mother, and often provided childcare for families in the community. They were a team in every sense of the word and seldom seen apart from each other. Their greatest joy came from coaching, attending, and cheering for their children and grandchildren at activities. Together, they volunteered and worked for Petersburg baseball and softball associations for over forty years, ran the carousel and holiday trains at White Oaks Mall, enjoyed gardening, heading to the Riverboat for a date, and visiting with friends. They loved St. Louis Cardinals baseball and sharing the love of the game with their family. Funeral services will be Monday, October 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg with the Rev. Jeffrey Gross officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at the funeral home from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. In honor of Clint and Betty being avid St. Louis Cardinals fans, we encourage visitors to come to the visitation in red and white, if you wish. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery. Gifts may be made to the family for a future memorial to honor Clint and Betty at Petefish, Skiles and Co. Bank to the Ruppel Memorial Fund.
