Dolores M. Free

Dolores Mae Free, 88, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, February 11, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was born January 08, 1933 to Silas and Lucille Moser of Fairbury, IL. She grew up in Fairbury, IL with her parents and beloved brother, Dean Moser. She married Dr. Barry D. Free on August 7, 1955 and they established their home in Petersburg, Illinois. Dolores graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Education and taught first grade in Springfield and Petersburg, IL for several years. Her main passion in life was being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. But not far behind was her love for Illini Football and Basketball along with the Chicago Bears. Other much-loved passions included traveling the world, antiques, volunteering her time with Festival of Trees and of course, Bridge Club. She was a longtime member of the Central Presbyterian Church in Petersburg. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother. She is survived by her husband, four children, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren with the sixth due in April of this year. Children are Debbie (Rodney) Davis of Petersburg, IL; Barbara Free of Irmo, SC; Cynthia (Mike) Rohman of Prosperity, SC; and Kenneth (Jake)(Valerie) Free of Petersburg, IL. Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren are Ashley (James, Jillian and Everly) Kveton of Petersburg, IL; Stephanie (Kyle, Hayes and Auggie) Wankel of Petersburg, IL; Daniel (Mary Allen and Eleanor) Rohman of Irmo, SC; and Kyle (Courtney and baby on the way) Rohman of Lexington, SC. Even though she has gone home to heaven, we know that she will walk beside us each and every day. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Jan Costello for her comforting words and prayers and to her wonderful caretakes, Ruth, Nikki and Ronnie. Private family ceremonies will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Presbyterian Church, 210 W Douglas St., Petersburg, IL 62675.
