Janice Ruth Arnold

Janice “Jan” Ruth Arnold, 76, of Greenview, Illinois was at her home with her loving children by her side when she went to be with The Lord on Saturday, July 29, 2023. She was born October 5, 1946, in Lincoln, Illinois, the daughter of Hobart and Eileen List Arnold. Janice grew up on the family farm surrounded by loving parents and four siblings, all of whom she dearly loved. She graduated from Petersburg Harris High School and began her 35-year career with the State of Illinois at the age of 17. She trained many state employees in the use of computers when they were first being introduced into the workplace. She retired from the State of Illinois Department of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities to enjoy the life of country living with her much loved companion, Robert Volk, and their devoted dog Duke. Jan loved being surrounded by all the beautiful creations nature had to offer. She planted many flower gardens and loved feeding and watching all birds and other wildlife. She lived life her way with uniqueness, humor, creativity, and artistic talent. Live, love and laugh… she lived a life of generosity and not many people crossed her path without becoming her friend. Jan was a lifelong member of the Greenview Amvets Ladies Auxiliary. She and Bob were also founders of the Historic Marbold Farmstead where a walkway brick is engraved with their names. Janice is survived by her children, Michelle (Greg) Orum of Greenview and Evan (Linda) Reimer of Springfield, Illinois; her grandchildren Jessica (husband Robert), Alysan, Chase, (wife, Caitlin), Christian, Colton and Grace; her great grandchildren, Blake, Quinn, Eve, Raegan, Millie and Lucy; a sister Lorna (Bud) Boston of Greenview and a brother Andy (Mary Ann) Arnold of Marseilles, Illinois; many nieces and nephews and her beloved dog Duke. Janice was preceded in death by her parents; a brother Mike Arnold; a sister Kathy Heidrick; and her loving companion, Bob Volk. Per Janice’s wishes, there will be no formal services held. Her children will be planning an informal gathering of family and friends at a later date. Cremation rites will be accorded by Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg, Illinois.
