John D. Rogers

John D. Rogers, 76, of Topeka, passed away at 5:17 a.m., on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at OSF-St. Francis Medical Center, in Peoria. He was born January 8, 1948, in Peoria, Illinois, to John David and Virginia (Stennett) Rogers. He married Kathryn Lynn Wooding on March 16, 1990. She survives. Mr. Rogers is survived by his wife of 37 years, Kathy, of Topeka; daughter: Sierra (Jake) Trainer, of Topeka; son: Andrew Rogers, of White Deer, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren: Harper, Brayden, and Kallie Trainer, of Topeka; brothers-in-law: Greg (Jonni) Wooding, of Pekin, and David Wood of Florida; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, John, his mother, Virginia, and two sisters: Caroline Joanne Wood, and Betty Hanson. John had many jobs throughout his life; some being Keystone Wire and Steel, Federal Warehouse Companies (as a truck driver through Allied Van Lines), semi driver for a local farmer; and finally as a cashier at County Market, in Havana. He graduated from Limestone High School in 1966 and then served in the US Navy, in VietNam, froom 1967 – 1968. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post #6408, in Havana and was a retired member of the Teamsters Union. John lived his life to the fullest. He had many hobbies. His most favorite pastime was being with family and friends, laughing and smiling and enjoying life. John absolutely loved good music and was always dancing and singing. Throughout his younger years, John was an avid flat track motorcycle racer, and could have gone on to Pro Racing. He enjoyed his motorcycles and classic cars, having more than a few over the course of his life. John made a homemade go-kart track in his yard, in 2020, and that became his favorite hobby. He rode his go-kart, mini bike, and dune buggies almost everyday, always with a smile on his face. Per John’s request, there will be no services.
