Jon R. Poler

Jon R. Poler, 69 passed away at his home in Havana with his family, who loved him so, at his side. Jon was born March 25, 1947 to Ray and Erma Poler of Macomb, IL. He had one brother Charles Jay Poler. All proceeded him in death. Jon married Terri Nelson with whom he had two beautiful daughters, Sherri (Bart) Kerz of Springfield and Kristi Poler (Wes Simmons) of Havana. Jon then married Sue (Towery) Mason and they were blessed with 25 very happy years of marriage. Sue proceeded him in death. He married Lydia (Clifford) Chambers in 2011 and they loved a life time in the years they had together. Jon became a wonderful and much loved stepdad to Lydia’s kids Jacob Chambers of Endicott, New York and Sarah Chambers of Chicago, IL. Jon owned and operated Havana True Value until it closed. He then worked in construction with Bob Sarff who became a dear friend and later worked in the Assessor’s Office at the Mason County Courthouse. He was a member of the Mason County Board. He started his career in law enforcement as a Deputy for the Mason County Sheriff’s office in 1974 and had a brave and interesting career until his retirement in 2003. Jon was much loved by and had the loyalty of his co-workers and the other law enforcement officers throughout the county and the stories of his career will live on through them. Jon had his pilot’s license, was a certified scuba diver and more than anything had a love for motorcycles, fast cars and guns. Jon shot competitively and was in the Governor’s top 20 for 19 years. He was range master for the Sheriff’s Department and took great pride in teaching others his love of shooting. He was a proud member of the NRA. Jon was a loyal member of the Blue Knights motorcycle club of Daytona Beach, Florida. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Hurley Funeral Home in Havana. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at 10:30 a.m., also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana, IL.
