Kenton W. Bottens

Kenton W. Bottens, 102, of Chandlerville, passed away at Sunny Acres Home in Petersburg at 9:26 p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2015. He was born September 12, 1913 in Fairfield, Iowa to John E. and Grace Inez (Curran) Bottens. He married Lizzie Bell Garmon on May 9, 1943 in Virginia, IL. She preceded him in death on July 7, 1997. Mr. Bottens is survived by one daughter, Janet Cox of Chandlerville, daughter-in-law Vicki Bottens of Pekin, IL, four grandchildren; Sharon J. (John) Cox-Jarrell of Woodlawn, TN, Tammy M. (Dale) Cox-Fleenor of Virginia, Misty Bottens-Springer of Pekin and Shane (Sabrina) Bottens of Pekin, seven great-grandchildren; Sarah, Tina and Rita Jarrell, Ashley (Kerry) DeFrates, Whitney Fleenor, Bradon and Marissa Springer as well as three great-great-grandchildren; Nathen and Louis Jarrell and Easton Fleenor. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, Kenneth Wayne Bottens, brother Wilbur and twin brother Keith as well as son-in-law Nathan Cox. Mr. Bottens was a member of the Chandlerville Christian Church where he had served as Elder and Sunday School Teacher. He attended Krohe one room school and later Beardstown High School where he graduated in 1930. He served two terms on the Chandlerville School Board. He delivered coal to the local schools in the wintertime. He was a farmer in the Cass County Area. He worked as a soy bean and seed corn dealer and did custom bailing. He enjoyed fishing, playing checkers and spending time with his family and neighbors. Visitation will be held at Lintner-Hurley Funeral Home in Chandlerville on Thursday, September 24, 2015 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 25, 2015 at 10:30 a.m., also at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. Mr. Botten's nephew, Rev. Ronald Bottens, of the Brighton Church of Christ will officiate.
