Mary Louise Dorr Taylor

Mary Louise Dorr Taylor, 95, of Virginia, died at 5:30 a.m. Monday, October 10, 2011, at Walkers Nursing Home, in Virginia, Illinois. She was born August 31, 1916, in Chandlerville, Illinois, the daughter of Henry Otto and Mary Louise Shaw Dorr. She married Cheslea Charles Taylor August 12, 1948, in Chandlerville, Illinois. She is survived by her three sons, C. Charles (wife Judy) of Virginia, Henry Chandler of St. Louis, Missouri, and William J. (wife Teri) of Bettendorf, Iowa; four grandchildren, Morgan (husband John Zurn) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Gavin of Annapolis, Maryland, Stephanie (husband Scott Lewis) of Inverness, Illinois, and Scott of Wheaton, Illinois as well as five great-grandchildren. Mary Louise graduated from Chandlerville High School in 1934, MacMurray College in Jacksonville in 1938 and received a Masters of Business Administration from Washington University, St. Louis in 1948. Before marriage, Mary Louise was a teacher at Chandlerville High School from 1938 to 1943 and then at East Saint Louis Senior High School in the Commercial Department from 1943 to 1948. For many years, Mary Louise was an active member of the Chandlerville Woman’s Club, Sangamon Valley Birthday Club, Chandlerville United Methodist Women, Cass County Homemakers, and the Rev. James Caldwell National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Jacksonville. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother with a keen sense of humor. Mary Louise enthusiastically followed the lives of her family and was a loyal fan of the St Louis Cardinals. She was an avid reader, loved to travel, enjoyed flower gardening and watching wild birds, especially hummingbirds. Mary Louise was a member of the Virginia United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at the Lintner-Hurley Funeral Home in Chandlerville at 10 A. M. October 13, 2011 with Rev. William Braswell officiating. Burial will be in the Chandlerville City Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 6 to 8 Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Chandlerville Cemetery Fund.
