Mary Willis Lehmann

Mary Willis Lehmann, 100, of Pleasant Plains, passed away Monday, September 5, 2016 at her home. Mary was born October 2, 1915 in Adair County, Kentucky to the late Olen and Addie Rae Morris Robertson. She attended grade school in a one room school house in Columbia, Kentucky and went on to graduate from Columbia and Adair County High School in 1934. Mary was the last surviving member of her class. On February 4, 1936 she married Howard R. Willis. He passed away in 1988. Together they enjoyed 52 years. Mary married Alvin S. Lehmann on December 5, 1992. For the next thirteen years, they shared laughter, tears, traveling and good memories. Mr. Lehmann preceded her in death in 2005. She was also predeceased by her parents, five brothers: Kenneth, Delaney, Hollis, Chester, and James Robertson, as well as a sister, Eura Robinson. Mary was active in her community, being a member of the Tallula Women’s Club and the Pleasant Plains Community Club. She was also an active member of the Deming, New Mexico Border Bells and the Busy Hands Club. Mary was an accomplished seamstress, not only teaching 4-H kids the art, but also creating beautiful garments for her daughter and granddaughters. Cooking was a particular joy for her, and also found time to keep accounting books for both of her farmer husbands. Above all, her family was most important. Surviving are one daughter, Carol R. Walter of rural Pleasant Plains, two granddaughters, Rebecca M. Walter of rural Tallula, Elizabeth C. (Eric) Rollins of Pleasant Plains. There are also two great granddaughters, Alexandra and Adelyn (Addie) Rollins, and a great grandson, Andersen Rollins all of Pleasant Plains. Mary also leaves behind several special nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hurley Funeral Home, 122 W Douglas Ave. Petersburg, IL, 62675. The family will receive guests at the funeral home on Monday, September 12, 2016 from 4-7 pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at 10 am. Burial will be held at the Pleasant Plains Cemetery. Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Association.
