Patricia Ann Schurman

Patricia Ann Schurman, 84, of Greenview, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2015 at 4:36 p.m. at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield. She was born April 6, 1930, the daughter of Frank and Alma Heflin Rebbe. She married David Schurman on July 21, 1956 in Petersburg, IL. Patricia is survived by her children, Julie (Mark) DuFresne of Tarpon Springs, FL, Steven Schurman of Athens, Mary Beth (Craig) Whiteleather of Clearwater, FL, Jon (Becky) Schurman of New Berlin, Michael (Jennifer) Schurman of Greenview , Timothy (Michelle) Schurman of Mt. Carroll and Robb (Gina) Schurman of Springfield. She is also survived by her 17 grandchildren, Katie, Hayley, Sara Beth, Hank, Jacob, Maddie, Grant, Lauren, Anna, Blake, Ian, Olivia, Annalise, Natalie, Kennedy, Peyton and Ryan; a brother, Robert Rebbe of Petersburg; sister-in-law, Barbara Estill of Springfield and close friend of 60 years, Sharon Davis of Greenview. She was preceded in death by her husband, David and 5 sisters, Hermena, Marge, Dorothy, Hazel and Carol. Patricia earned a Bachelor in Home Economics from Millikin University in 1952 and a Masters from Iowa State in 1954. She went on to teach Home Economics in Chenoa, Park Ridge, Greenview and finally New Holland Middletown. She also worked for the May Department Store Company and was a Diamond Star Employee. Patricia loved playing bridge and golf, she and her husband were founding members of Shambolee Golf Club. Patricia loved entertaining family and friends, she hosted a monthly supper club and her screened in porch often became an impromptu party. Upon retirement, she enjoyed summering in Wisconsin and wintering in Florida. Patricia was also a long time member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Athens. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 9, 2015 at 11:00 am at Holy Family Catholic Church in Athens with burial following at Elmwood Cemetery, Greenview, IL. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 8, 2015 from 5 to 7 pm at Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Johns Hospice. The Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg is assisting the Schurman family with arrangements.
