William Johnson Sr.

William "Bill" Johnson Sr., 65, of 100 Margaret St., Green Valley, IL passed away at 10:45 PM, Tuesday, April 29th, 2014 at Asta Care Center in Bloomington, ILBill was born on January 28th, 1949 in Peoria, IL the son of Lester and Eve "June" (Yarbrough) Johnson. He Married Donna L. Fuller on June 18th, 1972 in Manito, IL. Bill is survived by three sons: William "Bill" Johnson Jr., Jeremiah Johnson, and Austin Johnson all of Green Valley, IL, one daughter: Julie (Kristina) Williams-Howard of Pekin, IL, two Grand-daughters: Aireonna Williams(15) and Kayleigh Whitney(6) both of Pekin, IL, five Grand-sons: Joel Williams(12), Gabrial Williams (11), William Callaway(10), and Garrett Johnson(9) all of Pekin, IL, and Keagan Williams(4) of Washington, IL, three sisters: Rita Erxleben of Ohio, Karen(John) Toms of E.Peoria, IL, and Patricia(Steve)Roberts of Hanna City, IL, and one brother: Keith (Trish) Johnson of Green Valley, IL. He is preceded in death by his Father (1968), Mother (1989), one son: Gregory "Greg" Johnson (2008), two brothers: Robert "Bob" Johnson (2002), Richard "Dick" Johnson (2009), and one sister: Nancy Hill (2010). Bill was enlisted in the United States Army as a E-5 Airplane Remedial Project Manager (67H20 OV-1) at Fort Lewis, WA on February 24th, 1969, he returned from overseas on December 23rd, 1970, serving proudly in Vietnam from February 6th, 1970 to December 22nd, 1970. He was Honorably Discharged on February 23rd, 1975. He was also proudly awarded the Vietnam Service Medal and an Army Commendations medal. He graduated from Forman High School in Manito, IL in 1966. He worked as a ASE Certified Master Technician at Erxleben Automotive in Pekin, IL for 26 years before retiring in 2007. He was a former member of Sand Ridge Missionary Church near Manito, IL. Bill had a love for all cars especially Fords saying Chevy's were "Job Security", he enjoyed working on cars, playing cards, 50s and 60s rock and roll music, old tractors, Diet Pepsi, spending time with his family especially his Grand-children. He was a great Father, Grandfather, Husband, Brother and Friend. He had a big heart, and helping hands that would help anyone and everyone he could, which he made to be a part of his everyday life. Funeral services for Bill will be held on Monday, May 5Th, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Clear Lake, IL (near Springfield, IL). A visitation will be held Monday, May 5Th, 2014 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at Maas-Hurley Funeral Home in Manito, IL. Pastor Fred Doughty will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to William L. Johnson Sr. Funeral Fund at Herget Bank in Pekin, IL, c/o Julie Williams. Maas-Hurley Funeral Home in Manito, IL is assisting the family with arrangements.
