Denton "Denny" R. Meyer

Denton “Denny” R. Meyer, 80, of Petersburg passed away on October 7, 2020 at 9:36 PM at his home. He was born on December 24, 1939 in Springfield, IL the son of Henrey L. and Edna (Vandre) Meyer. He married Donna Ridgeway in Athens, IL on October 4, 1958. Denny and Donna celebrated 62 happy years of marriage before his passing. She survives. Denny is also survived by two children, Doug (Sue) Meyer, Dawn Meyer, both of Springfield, IL; three grandchildren, Angela Meyer, Trista Dennis, Alyssa Greene; six great grandchildren, Bryson, Jackson, Jade, Luke, Cooper, and Rowan; and three siblings, John Meyer, Mary Taylor, and Gene Meyer. He was preceded in death by one son, Daniel Meyer, his parents; and his siblings, Harold, Mildred, Marcella, Luella, Henry Jr., Hubert, Donald, Howard, and Shirley. Denny graduated from Williamsville High School and had worked as a Foreman Industrial Painter for City Water, Light and Power for over 20 years. He was a lifetime member of the Painters Local 90 in Springfield, IL, a member of the Menard County Sportsman’s Club, and the Card Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, trap shooting, and mushroom hunting, but most of all he enjoyed watching his grandson play sports, and playing with all of his grandchildren. Cremation rites have been accorded and a graveside service will be held for Denny on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Oakland Cemetery in Petersburg, IL. Memorials may be made to Shriner’s Hospital or an organization of the donor’s choice. The family would like to thank Safe Haven Hospice for all of the excellent care provided for Denny.
