George A. Dirks

George A. Dirks, 70, of Springfield, IL passed away on Monday, June 6, 2022 at 11:30 PM at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Petersburg, IL. He was born on June 24, 1951 in Springfield, IL to Arthur F. and Ercell (Janssen) Dirks. He later married Joan Farris, she survives. George is also survived by his stepson, Matthew Farris in Michigan; two brothers, Larry (Barb) Dirks of Petersburg, IL, and Frank Dirks of Jacksonville, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant brother, John William Dirks. George graduated in 1969 from PORTA High School and then served his country in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, George received his bachelor’s degree, and later his master’s degree through Southern Illinois University Carbondale. George had worked for the State of Illinois in the Department of Human Services for over 20 years and had previously worked as a substance abuse counselor. He was passionate about golfing, was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, and was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Petersburg. Cremation rites have been accorded and a graveside service will be held for George on Saturday, July 9th at 11:00 AM at Rose Hill Cemetery in Petersburg. Cameo Manci will officiate.
