Hiram Lewis Vanderheiden

Hiram Lewis Vanderheiden, Sr. 92, of Manito, passed away Tuesday morning, January 18, 2022 at the Timber Creek Nursing Home, in Pekin. He was born April 10, 1929 in Bartonville, to the late John and Mildred Harren Vanderheiden. He married Waltressa “Sally” Pfeifer October 8, 1955 in Bartonville, she died January 2, 2020. Hiram was a Veteran of the United States Air Force, and a member of the Spring Lake Missionary Church. He enjoyed going on his annual “smelting” trips to Wisconsin, and hunting over the years. Hiram belonged to the Wilmar Beagle Club as well as the National Rifle Association. He worked in Building KK at the East Peoria Caterpillar plant assembling engines, retiring after 30 years to the day, of employment. For many years, he enjoyed being an Assistant Scout Master with the local Boy Scouts. Never afraid of hard work, Hiram was passionate about cutting and splitting wood to heat his home. He is survived by , a daughter, Tammy (Steve) Pierson, of Byron, Il, two sons, Hiram L. Vanderheiden, Jr. of Manito and Roger J. Vanderheiden, of Bartonville, five grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Hiram was preceded in death by, his brother Dale Vanderheiden, and a great grandson, Jacob Kosmider. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 24, 2022 from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at the Spring Lake Missionary Church. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 11:00 am in the church, the Rev. Steve Oaks officiating. Burial with Military Honors provided by the Hill-Palmer American Legion Post #561 will follow in the Spring Lake Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Spring Lake Missionary Church or Vistas Hospice/Healthcare Foundation.
